Boxing Central - Kansas City, MO KOs: " Kansas City, MO KOs

by Bobby Mac

Plenty of ring action tonight at the Kansas City Expo Center in Kansas City, MO. The main event featured WBA #9 against WBA #2 superflyweights in a title eliminator bout.

#9 Martin Castillo introduced Mexican boxing in the US to #2 Rogelio Galicia of the Philippines in his American debut. The action started about 30 seconds into the bout when Castillo landed a good left hook and continued non stop until the final bell in the 12th. In the meantime, Castillo showed some rare boxing skills as he seemed to have administered a first class beating to every square inch of the overmatched Galicia. Rogelio had no answer for the wide sweeping hooks and pinpoint straight rights and lefts of Castillo, who switched to lefty for a few rounds in the bout to counter the southpaw style of Galicia. Rogelio was stunned several times in the bout by the pure power of Castillo, but did not go down until pushed late in the bout.

Castillo boxed and moved when he wanted, slipping most of Galicia's offense, but was cut on the bridge of his nose in all the action. Nonetheless, the judges awarded a lopsided decision to Castillo, now 25-1-0(15KO) and Galicia drops to 23-3-1(8KO).

If the main bout was not enough, one featherweight undercard featured a quick TKO 1:30 into the first round. Mike Juarez blocked the lightning whip jab of Marcos Ramirez but was caught in the temple by the trailing overhand right and was dropped. Somehow he made it up, but was so unsteady that the ref stopped the fight. Ramirez runs to 16-0-0(12KO) and Juarez slides to 24-13-2(9KO).

Yet another undercard featured the quick 1-2 combo as Donovan Casteneda, 4-0-0(4KO) downed Jeremy Stiers, 3-2-0(3 KO) in a welter bout towards the"

Boxing Central - Kansas City, MO KOs: "the end of an action packed 1st round. Casteneda seemed to stun Stiers seconds into the bout, but the much taller Stiers roared back and was getting the better of the fight with his long jabs, combos and landed some nasty uppercuts when Casteneda got close. However, Donovan must have been watching Ramirez before him, because a jab and overhand right knocked Stiers to the canvas for a clean KO before the 1st had ended.

Jeri Stizes used height, power, and skills to overwhelm a game Mary Ortega for a 5 rd TKO in a women's bout. Stizes is now 3-2-1(2KO) and Ortega goes to 25-2-1(5 KO). "
