'Let's Get It On' --Championship Professional Boxing

Ameristar Casino and ESPN Radio present "Let's Get It On". Mike Wood will take on Jesse Bryan for the 'North American Midwest Association' Light Heavyweight Title. Wood is currently 14-3-1 with 8 knockouts. Bryan is 9-2-2 with 7 knockouts. There are also 5 underard Bouts on the ticket.

*****HINDS WINS BIG IN REMATCH AGAINST JACKSON BY TKO IN THE 6TH*****

Journeyman fighter Jeff Hinds from Webb City, MO defeated Cornell "The Assassin" Jackson of St. Louis, MO in the 3rd fight of the evening on this terrific card. This was a rematch from a bout this past July were Hinds won by DQ due to low blows by Jackson.

Hinds battered Jackson around the ring for 5 rounds before finally knocking him down, and out, in the 6th. This was sweet vindication for Hinds who was looking for this result in their first fight. "It's a sweet victory for me as Jackson had never been down before, and I was able to give the fans what they wanted - a great fight".

Hinds goes to 3-3 with 2KO's while Jackson is now 11-13-1 with 6KO's.

Hinds seems to have found his niche at 140lbs, and when asked what his plans are, he stated that he is going to try and avenge his previous losses to Steve Vincent, Donovan Castaneda, and especially Jens "Lil' Evil" Pulver. "I'd like to rematch with all of those guys, but I'm really beginning to feel my power at 140lbs. We'll see".

Indeed we will Jeff! Indeed we will!

Robbie Cannon from Horine Missouri will be fighting in his first professional fight on the 8th of Sept at the Family Arena in St. Charles as part of the "Lets Get it on- Championship Boxing Series" sponsored by Ameristar Casino and ESPN Radio.

During his 10 year span as an amateur Robbie has collected Gateway Classic as well as Golden Glove titles. Fighting at the 135 lbs. weight class, Robbie is definitely someone to watch for.

*******HIGHLIGHTS & RESULTS********
Chris Reider 170lbs. (Columbia, MO) SD4 against Harold Curry 170lbs. (Jefferson City, MO)
Curry was definitely the busier fighter while Reider took a more tactful approach to the bout. I personally gave the SD to Curry for his activity in the ring, but Reider pulls this one out.

Terrance Harris 150lbs. (Oklahoma City, OK) vs. Steve Vincent 150lbs. (St. Louis, MO). This fight was scratched due to a unofficial/unverified report of a medical problem with Harris.

Joe Stofle 235lbs. (St. Charles, MO) SD6 against John Turlington 215lbs. (Sullivan, MO). In this viewers honest opinion there was no way this was a Split Decision. There were great exchanges by both fighters, but the better power shots, better ring generalship, and overall dominance was with Stofle. Regardless he still comes away with the victory.

Zack Ruppel 260lbs. (New Bloomfield, IL) UD4 against Ryan White 230lbs. (Jefferson City, MO). Pretty good fight, but not a whole lot of action. Ruppel had more power shots, and better activity.

*******CO-HEADLINGING EVENT********
Jeff Hinds 140lbs. (Webb City, MO) DQ4 against Cornell Jackson (St. Louis, MO). This started off as the best fight thus far during the event. Both fighters came out strong in the 1st round. Heavy body blows and shots to the head from both fighters. In the 2nd round Jackson landed a low blow to Hinds. Jackson was warned, and then before the round was over it happened again. This time Referee Mike England deducted a point from Jackson. 3rd round the same thing again. Another low blow and this time Hinds is on his knees. Another point was deducted. It was reported that after this 3rd low blow the referee wanted to stop the fight, but allowed it to go on at the request of Hinds. 4th round and once again another low blow. Referee Mike England stops the bout at 2:21 of the 4th round. Very disappointing end result. I can tell you that Jeff Hinds stated to me after this bout that he obviously did not want to win that way. He wanted to beat this guy fair and square. In speaking with Cornell Jackson after the event you could tell that he felt the low blows were due to Hinds blocking body shots with his hands that wound up hitting him low, but he too wished the fight could have gone on. Look for a rematch between these two. The fight was going great up until the time of the low blows, and would have made for some exciting action.

**********HEADLINING EVENT*********
Sharon Hammack 175lbs. (St. Charles, MO) TKO1 against Lyle Barron 175lbs. Tulsa, OK. Another impressive victory for Sharon Hammack (whose names is pronounced "Shawn"). Look for this young man to be one of the up and comers in the future. Hammack landed a vicious overhand right to the head of Barron, which drove him into the corner. Hammack began a series of blows (which in the honest opinion of this view seemed to be more blocked than anything on the arms and gloves of Barron), but the fight was stopped when Barron was unable to respond during this flurry.

Fantastic Thursday night fights. If you missed them make sure you make the next event!

Donnie McCrary (13-2-1 9ko's) won the NABC Super Middleweight Title tonight against Luis Pena (10-3 6ko's) at the AmeriStar Casino in Kansas City Mo. McCrary dropped Pena in the 2nd round with a hard left hook and went on to win this 8 round war by the scores of 76-75 77-74 77-74. Galen Brown (23-3-1 15ko's) took an easy unanimous decision over Dominique Alexander (13-1-1 7ko's) in the nights feature bout. Congratulations to both of the St. Joe boys!
